Abstract

General characteristics of transportation systems to meet the social, economic and human requirements of new cities are determined. Basic transportation needs are identified. The necessity for some form of public transport to meet these needs is established, individual and community criteria for transit systems are developed, and a public transport system which satisfies all criteria e. g. the dial-a-bus system is suggested.
