The papers are based on presentations at the 73rd Annual Meeting of Transportation Research Board, held in January 1994 in Washington D.C. Each paper, in accordance with established TRB procedures, has been reviewed by peers (practitioner and academic) in the field op public transportation. Six operational elements of bus operations are addressed in Part 1. Part 2 represents new interest in an earlier technology, the electric trolleybus (ETB). Part 3 considers regional rail issues for the United States, low-density areas, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Philadelphis. In Part 4, performance evaluation, safety issues, and at-grade crossings for light rail are studied. Part 5, on ridesharing and paratransit, examines several key issues. Part 6 is about transit security.
