Quad bikes (quadricycles or ATV, all-terrain vehicles) have become increasingly popular in Germany in the last 10 years or so. It is estimated that there are now over 150,000 of these vehicles. They are now being used not just for pleasure on private land but also on the roads. This has had an impact on the accident statistics. The challenge when analysing the situation is to identify the quad bikes involved in accidents and draw a well-grounded conclusion about the relevance of accidents involving quad bikes.
