Abstract

The study presents a quantitative definition of the nearaccident concepts, and the level of risk associated withvarious types of manoeuvres at an intersection. Thedefinition is objective and is not influenced by observervariations. The definition is based on the development oftwo dimensional equations of mot ion for vehicles travelinbthrough the intersection, the calibxation of such equa-tions, and the definiton of crtcal valces of resultantdecalaratian. The method needs relativeiy high aljeedcantinuous filmin÷ of the intersection area, and neces-sitates a deta?ed film analysis.
