Quiktrak is a terrestrial spread-spectrum radiolocation and messaging system developed in Australia to provide coverage over wide and diverse areas to fleet managers and consumers. Its principle application has been in the location of vehicles over an area of about 2000 km2. The operation of the system is described and individual elements considered in more detail. These include transmitters, receivers, vehicle equipment kits, control and processing equipment at the operator's premises, Track Display Stations at the subscriber's premises and communications links. The management of vehicle fleets and security applications are considered.
