Abstract

This paper presents an overview of current signage practice and philosophy in the railway industry. It should be noted that the world has thousands of different railways, each with a multitude of unique operational problems that need to be addressed. Therefore, it is impossible to cover all of the different signage types. Also included in this paper is a section on the most recent developments in information delivery and the direction that modern railways are taking in terms of signage.
