Abstract

Random breath testing (RBT) introduced in Finland in 1977 is an effective measure against drinking and driving. Analysing the clinical historics attention is drawn to the high level of alcohol problems among the offenders RBT deters social drinkers but not problem drinkers. The way forward now is to regard RBT as a method to identify problem drinking under drivers.
