A French government report about the planning of a study and research programme on passenger car safety, and its organization and cooperation on a national and international level. Suggestions are presented on improving aspects of primary and secondary car safety, and a programme is given comprising basic research, technical results, and evaluation of results, both for primary and secondary urgency, with indication of the costs involved. Calculation of the effect on the price of small, medium and large cars shows that mainly the small car market will suffer. A supplement presents a cost-effective investigation on different measures.
