Abstract

Using data for 50 states (1980-1996), regression analyses with control for population size showed homicide rates predicted traffic fatality rates and traffic fatalities predicted homicide rates. Population size was inversely correlated with traffic fatalities rates and directly with homicide rates, supporting prior work of Lester and of Spivak and suggesting further work on incivilities is desirable.
