Abstract

This paper describes a knowledge- based system which can make readily available to those responsible for speed zoning not only the expertise of experienced engineers but also the information added to the knowledge base (learnt) each time a new speed zoning is confirmed. The paper discusses the New Zealand processes for speed zoning and suggests how the knowledge- base structure might be utilised with New Zealand expertise to meet the needs of local engineers.
