Abstract

A real time bus dispatching and scheduling system, which integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS), was developed for Hsinchu City, Taiwan. With this system, managers are able to supervise the position of each bus. When traffic jams occur and the original schedule could no longer be followed, a column generation based model will be invoked and suggest dispatching alternatives such that the disturbance is minimized and adequate service level is remained.
