Abstract

After a control system is put into operation, it is important to monitor the performance of the control periodically. TPA Traffic & Parking Automation developed the I-trac-system, which makes it possible to monitor the performance of operational traffic controllers automatically and generate real-time data for integrated traffic control systems. One of the most complicated and important aspects of such monitoring systems is the real-time measurement of the delay at controlled intersections. This paper describes a method for real-time measurement of delays using only a minimum of detectors. A comparison of the delays calculated via the I-trac method with the delays determined via AIMSUN simulation resulted in only minor differences.
