Abstract

Nowadays, where the auto mobility is a very important phase of people's daily life, new needs have risen. Safety and convenience became the crucial factors where the vehicle industries, are focused. A large number of vehicle developers are starting to pay attention not only to convenience but also to safety issues, which leads to the installation of more information systems in the vehicle (IVIS). However, this increasing in-vehicle information and safety systems tend to confuse and distract the driver from his/her primary driving task. This paper presents the requirements for traffic and environment monitoring and, hence, it makes an extensive reference to the TRE module (Traffic Risk Estimation), which was subapplication of the AWAKE (IST-2000-28062) system for the estimation of the traffic - related risk. Following, a rough presentation will take place regarding the evolution of the aforementioned module, which is the TERA module. The TERA module (Traffic and Environmental Risk Assessment), is currently under development phase within the AIDE (Author/publisher) project (IST-1-507674-IP) for the real-time supervision of the traffic and environmental scenario around the vehicle for the optimisation of the Human Machine Interaction.
