Abstract

A review of seat belt design as undertaken by Diamler-Benz including the three point safety belt integrated in the mid door pillar, buckle tongue and sash guide, retractor with comfort zone, location and design of belt anchoragers and belt pretensioners designed to eliminate belt slack. Use of the air bag as a supplement to a conventional 3-point belt is discussed as is child restraints.
