Abstract

The reduction of wind-induced problems for the vehicle driver is currently carefully considered in the U.K. Studies of wind shielding by porous barriers are summarised with respect both to the benefits to traffic and to the disadvantages of increased wind load (drag) and increased susceptibility to wind-induced oscillation. Wind shields now being implemented are discussed, including applications of both continuous uniform shielding and localised graded shielding. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 857429.
