Abstract
An account is given of the PCA Offender Program, a programme introduced in the Armidale district of New South Wales to tackle problems of drinking and driving, problems which are considered to be particularly serious in rural Australia. The programme is described as skill-based and aims to teach in particular `how to separate alcohol consumption from driving a motor vehicle'. Convicted drink drivers take part in weekly 2-hour sessions held over 6 weeks where various aspects of drinking and driving are discussed. Clients must comply with a set of rules and are tested at the end of each session. The problems involved in assessing the effectiveness of such a programme in a rural area are discussed.
