Abstract

Starting from the measured contrast of pedestrians in the streets during nighttime, in dynamic experiments in the street, the recognition distance for pedestrians illuminated by Low beam headlamps was measured. The parameters investigated were: (1) headlamp shape; (2) mounting height of headlamp; (3) inclination of headlamp and (4) the reflectance factor of pedestrians, and safety recommendations proposed.
