Abstract

La ville de Beni-Mellal a ete fondee sur des terrains affectes par un important reseau de grottes et de cavites souterraines qui sont a l' origine des nombreux effondrements constates de nos jours. Afin de tester l' efficacite des methodes geophysiques a localiser et cartographier ces cavites, les techniques du panneau (ou tomographie) electrique et du radar geologique ont ete mises en oeuvre dans une parcelle de l' ancienne Medina. Les resultats obtenus revelent clairement l' existence de cavites souterraines dans le sous-sol, dont la plus importante s' etend sur une cinquantaine de metres carres environ. (A). RECONNAISSANCE OF UNDERGROUND CAVITIES BY MEANS OF ELECTRICAL TOMOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGICAL RADAR IN THE BENI-MELLAL CITY CENTER (MOROCCO). The city of Béni-Mellal was built on soils containing a sizable network of grottoes and underground cavities that have given rise to many ground collapses in recent times. In order to test the efficiency of geophysical methods for localizing and mapping these cavities, the techniques of electrical panels (or tomographies) and geological radar have been implemented on a parcel in the city's old Medina. The results obtained clearly show the presence of underground cavities in the subsoil, with the largest of these pockets extending approximately fifty square meters.
