Abstract

THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE RECONSTRUCTION OF 24 ACCIDENTS: 12 SIDE COLLISIONS BETWEEN A PEUGEOT 304 AND A RENAULT 15, 6 SIDE COLLISIONS BETWEEN A PEUGEOT 504 AND A CITROEN LN, AND 6 SIDE COLLISIONS BETWEEN A PEUGEOT 504 AND ANOTHER PEUGEOT 504. THE RELEVANT PARAMETERS IN EACH CASE WERE: THE SPEED OF THE STRIKING VEHICLE (IN ALL CASES THE STRUCK VEHICLE WAS AT A STANDSTILL), THE ANGLE FORMED BY THE LONGITUDINAL AXES OF THE VEHICLES, AND THE RELATIVE POSITION OF THE TWO VEHICLES AT THE TIME OF COLLISION. ACCELEROMETERS WERE PLACED IN ALL VEHICLES. ONLY DRIVERS WERE INVOLVED IN THE TESTS. IN ALL TESTS, THE DRIVERS OF THE STRIKING VEHICLES ARE REPRESENTED BY A "PART 572" DUMMY. THE DRIVERS OF THE STRUCK VEHICLES ARE REPRESENTED BY: (1) "PART 572" DUMMIES IN THE PRETESTS, (2) HUMAN SUBJECTS WHOSE MAIN ANTHROPOMETRIC FEATURES ARE NOT VERY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OF THE REAL ACCIDENT VICTIMS, IN THE CADAVER TESTS, AND (3) EITHER A "PART 572" DUMMY OR AN "APROD" (ASSOCIATION PEUGEOT-RENAULT OMNIDILECTIONAL DUMMY) IN THE DUMMY TESTS. ALL DUMMIES AND CADAVERS WERE FITTED WITH ACCELEROMETERS LOCATED AT THE LEVEL OF THE HEAD, THORAX AND PELVIS. NORMAL AVERAGE BLOOD PRESSURE WAS RE-ESTABLISHED IN THE HUMAN SUBJECTS. RESULTS ARE PRESENTED AND THE DIFFERENCES IN THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE CADAVERS. "PART 572" AND APROD DUMMIES ARE DISCUSSED AND COMPARED WITH THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE VICTIMS OF THE REAL ACCIDENTS.
