Abstract

The paper presents current issues related to increased accident rates for vulnerable road users in Central and East European countries, illustrated by the example of Slovakia. Accident causes, trends and the unique features of current transport policy are treated. One way to reduce the risks for cyclists and pedestrians is to change the transport system. This, and other tasks and objectives, must be implemented by local, regional, national and even international bodies.
