The Road Safety Advisory Council (RSAC) has presented to the Government 25 recommendations for a second phase of road safety reforms for South Australia which aim to reduce road trauma and cut the road toll. In developing the reforms the Council has taken into account interstate and overseas road safety experience, the work of various taskforces tackling specific road safety issues and community input. The recommendations take a three-pronged approach under the broad strategies of Safer Roads, Safer People, Safer Vehicles. The 25 recommendations include engineering, enforcement and education initiatives which require either legislative, regulatory or operational changes. The Council has also identified 13 key road safety issues that it will further investigate during 2004. The primary role of the Road Safety Advisory Council is to monitor road safety performance in South Australia and make recommendations to the State Government for strategies and actions which will reduce road trauma.
