Abstract

KoCoRo '95 (Kochi Communication Road '95), the 4-day demonstration of a standalone system related to ITS for regional activation, was held at the road station in Kochi Prefecture in 1995. Its details were reported at the 2nd World Congress on ITS, Yokohama. The concept of the full-scale field experiment (KoCoRo '97) providing a network among road stations, which will be implemented in Autumn 1997, was reported at the 3rd World Congress on ITS, Orlando (IRRD 897378). The present paper states the requirements for KoCoRo '97 which have been determined according to the results of the KoCoRo '95 questionnaires and the functions linked with KOCHI 2001 PLAN, and also logical organization and analysis of the present status and problems of Kochi. It also states technological infrastructure in a total system, which is required for satisfying the requirements, and the approach and schedule to expand it as standard all over the country. KOCHI 2001 PLAN means social experiments on computerization, which will be implemented all over the prefecture from this year, and KoCoRo '97 field experiment using road stations is one of the pillars of the social experiments. As Kochi is a typical regional prefecture suffering from aging and depopulation, this field experiment is considered to be a model experiment for the future Japan.
