Abstract

In Rotterdam, a Dynamic Route Information Panel (DRIP) will be installed that informs drivers about the current travel time on a route in an urban region. TNO Inro has developed the underlying algorithm which is generally applicable for estimating current travel times on routes in urban areas. In the first part of the specification the general computational kernel of the algorithm is described (See C 16051 (ITRD E203595). This report contains the specification of the preprocessing and postprocessing modules which, together with the computational kernel, constitute the travel time algorithm. The preprocessing modules serve three purposes: (1) to complete missing online data; (2) to correct errors in the online data; and (3) to take into account additional information from traffic jam detectors and greentimes. The postprocessing modules are meant: (i) to estimate link travel times in an alternative way for those links that are not measured online; and (ii) to limit the link travel times to minimal and maximal values.
