This report describes a measuring method and a field trial for the determination of the transfer quality at train stations, making use of infrared sensors. For Prorail (the railway maintenance agency in The Netherlands), TNO Inro and Delft University of Technol-ogy carried out the research. The sensors make it possible to detect and follow pedestrians. The sensors are designed to count pedestrians who are passing virtual detection lines in a certain direction. It is also possible to derive pedestrian densities directly. At Eindhoven station, at six loca-tions a pilot measurement is carried out, for two days per location. On the one hand to test the technology, on the other hand to test the processability and quality of the re-sults. It can be concluded that the technology is reliable and that the results of the measure-ment are very quickly available, which is a big advantage. (Author/publisher)
