Abstract

Since microcomputers have become much more powerful, new types of models have been developed. Moreover, these models are much more easy to run. Therefore, it is possible to use these models more intensively than before for policymaking, because the policymakers themselves can operate the models on a microcomputer. This paper presents the models that are aimed to support the policymakers, when new policy options are investigated. The very fact that policymakers can operate the models themselves give them a major time advantage. They do not have to transfer the operation of models to specialized agencies anymore. Intensive use of models gives the operator extended knowledge of a system. In case of traffic models, the user may realize the importance of, for instance demographic, developments on traffic flows. A good example of this is the Scenario
