RELATING DEFLECTION DATA TO PAVEMENT STRAIN

Abstract

Much effort has been made to verify backcalculated moduli based on deflections. However, pavement strain is of more interest to the pavement design engineer. A coparison of recorded strain at an instrumented road section with the strain obtained from backcalculation based on data from a falling weight deflectometer is presented. The agreement between the two methods is good, even if the backcalculated moduli show some discrepancy. This paper appears in transportationresearch record no. 1293, Backcalculation of pavement moduli 1991 .
