Abstract

The relationship between regulatory status and safety performance in the motor carrier industry is investigated. The study consisted of two phases. The first phase concluded that a study finding significant difference in accident rates was subject to statistical errors. In the second phase no statistically significant relationship was found. The hypothesis of a relationship between regulatory status and truck safety was not demonstrated.
