Abstract

There are both obvious and subtle difficulties in the use of serial photographic data to estimate the various characteristics of traffic. The obvious ways of estimating lead to serious errors. A fundamental theorem which gives an identity between space distributions of speeds and headways and their distributions under synchronous observations, is developed and discussed.
