Abstract

A research is conducted regarding the role that vision plays on safe driving. Discussed are (1) findings concerning the relationship between visual capability and traffic accident causation; (2) the range of driver visual performance on a number of standard and non-standard tests, including tests of static and dynamic perception, visual field, acuity, glare sensitivity, and contrast sensitivity; (3) the effects of visual performance of age and sex; and (4) the need for a program of periodic visual examinations.
