Abstract

With present day counting techniques it is possible to relate accidents to the hourly volume during which the accident occurred. Also, it is possible, from vehicle classification counts, to investigate the accident involvements of passenger cars and trucks in relation to their exposure in the traffic stream for the various hourly volumes. Therefore, it is the purpose if this study to (1) investigate the relationship of accident rates and hourly volume, and (2) to investigate the relationship of accident involvements, by passenger cars and trucks, with hourly volume.
