This report presents the work of the committee on low-cost roads during the period which has elapsed since the fourteenth congress in Prague in 1971, in respect of its double function of responsibility for the promotion of ideas and techniques and as general rapporteur on the question 7 to the Mexican congress: "low-cost roads, lightly trafficked roads". Chapter 1 is a "general report of the committee"; chapter 2 "general report on question 8" introduces the sequence of the committee' s report; chapter 3 is devoted to "the collection, storage and processing at the level of the planning director, of the data concerning soils and materials"; chapter 4 covers "soils and non-traditional materials"; chapter 5 examines "construction procedures"; chapter 6 treats the question of "strengthening of pavements"; chapter 7 is devoted to "the maintenance of pavement"; chapter 8 covers "the contribution of low-cost roads to the economic and social development in countries in the course of development"; chapter 9 is devoted to "particular problems of low-cost roads in industrialized countries or regions".
