Abstract

The Urban Traffic Control System (UTCS) was installed by the Federal Highway Administration for the purpose of developing advanced traffic signal control strategies that will reduce congestion in urban areas. This research has included development of procedures for detector placement, development of predictor algorithms and development of three generations of traffic control strategies.
