Abstract

For Metropolitan Expressway, an intraurban toll expressway featured by its wide road network within the Metropolitan Tokyo area, the Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation (MEPC) has been promoting the amplification of its request type information provision facilities in an attempt to secure the safety, smoothness, and comfortability of vehicular traffic on the expressway. These facilities are the MEX-i system which provides road traffic information to drivers through information terminals located at parking areas on the expressway and the Automatic Telephone Answering system which automatically responds to telephone inquiries about road traffic information by users at home or at work before they start traveling. This paper introduces the request type information provision systems constructed by the MEPC and the evaluation of their utilization status. (A*)
