Abstract

The circumstantial cash payment of single tickets and the missing integration of the payment process into electronic travel information systems represent a considerable hindrance for the use of public transport in the intermodal traffic. Therefore in Europe and worldwide there are a number of technological non-cash payment attempts for public transport and road traffic. However, these previous attempts confined themselves to the payment function without using the potential of transport specific marketing opportunities and operational rationalization. The European QUARTETplus project examines this deficit in this study, which deals with the integration of an electronic wallet in a European IRTE infrastructure and with the special requirements for such an electronic wallet.
