Abstract

A comprehensive study of the data available on thoracic injury, especially from animal experiments, suggests that the causes of injury are complex and, apart from those due to rib fractures, beat described in terms of two types of wave propagation. It is proposed that three independent criteria should be used to assess the probability of injury.
