Abstract

Capacity is an important factor in the design of traffic signals and traffic management schemes. Current capacity guides all around the world are based on motor vehicles. In the case of non-standard street traffic management and non-standard composition of the traffic flow, current capacity guides are not very useful. This paper reports some results of capacity analysis which has been done as part of the project `Hangzhou Traffic Management Decision Support System (HTMDSS)'. For different types of street traffic management and control as well as for heterogeneous traffic new relations, values of saturation flow and the shape of the bicycle platoon are presented. Established relations as well as other values were well as other values were used as inputs in the HTMDSS software package, which has been developed for specific Chinese conditions. (A)
