Abstract

The scope and content of economics and financial research in highway transportation, as part of a larger study, is described. The acquisition of knowledge relevant to optimising the allocation of resources with respect to highway policy is researched. Three broad aspects of highway economics are distinguished: demand for trips, costs and supply of trips, and interaction of supply and demand.
