Abstract

In this research, a systematic performance tests of asphalt mixtures of different types of gradations with various asphalt contents have been carried out to analyze the following characteristics of the asphalt mixture:1)high temperature rutting. 2)low temperature cracking resistance. 3)moisture stability. 4)fatigue resistance. 5)skid resistance. combined with previous studies, a system of proportioning design method of asphalt mixture is established to suit for applying in various climate areas of China. A recommended optimal proportions of asphalt mixture for each of the climate areas is also presented in this study. While the high-temperature rutting is taken as the control factor for the climate area where yearly extreme low temperature is higher than -21.5 o C and the average maximum temperature in July is higher than 30 o C. The low-temperature cracking is considered as the main control factor for the climate areas where yearly extreme low temperature is lower than -21.5 o C and the average maximum temperature in July is lower than 30 o C. For the rest of climate areas, both low-temperature cracking and high-temperature rutting of asphalt mixture are designed as the control factors. (A)
