Abstract

Lighting installations were strongly affected by the badly managed economic activity of the 60's, 70's and 80's in Romania. Cities plunged into darkness were an every day reality, endangering the inhabitants' activities. This paper is a critical analysis of the public lighting installation of a large city in Romania. The analysis covers: the equipment, design and control, road safety and maintenance. Some recommendations are made, inspired by the CIE reports and by the literature on public lighting.
