Abstract

The main text describes the objectives which should normally be aimed at in the layout of residential roads and footpaths. The basic themes considered are: relating the housing scheme to its setting; minimising danger and nuisance from non-access vehicular traffic; reducing vehicle flow and speed; providing for pedestrian movement; making effective provision for off-street parking; providing for vehicular movement; and making provision for statutory and other services.
