Abstract

Jobs in the road sector have changed not only because of technology, but also because of changes in roles between the public and private sectors. Furthermore, in various countries the public sector is facing an ageing workforce, and problems of renewing its staff in an environment where there is a reduction of the resources for administrations. This session will examine the changing needs in respect to the competences required in the public and private sectors, how to respond to it, and the gaps in the initial and continuing education process in developing countries. Examples will also be presented of initiatives taken to attract, in particular young people, to the road sector. For the covering abstract see ITRD E139491.
