A response surface approach to improving traffic signal settings in a street network.

Abstract

The problem of determining the settings for the controllable parameters of a number of pretimed traffic signals located throughout a general street network is given. A technique based on response surface methodology is presented which combines a search procedure and a time-oriented simulation model of the system under study. An example situation is presented.
