Abstract

Sustainable Travel and Transport was a regional cooperation project that took place 2005-2007. The project was part-financed by Interreg IIIC and led by the Swedish Road Administration, the City of Stockholm, the Swedish Railway Administration, the County Administrative Board of Stockholm and the Stockholm County Association of Local Authorities. The target group forthe project was professionals working with traffic planning, public transports, land-use planning and regional planning at regional and local authorities and NGO's within the County of Stockholm. The starting point of theproject was that travels and transports is a basic precondition to make our everyday-life and industry work and develop. At the same time it is important that our mobility demands don't affect the environment in a harmfulway. As for the Stockholm region the traffic is intensive and the trafficsystem has some serious lacks in the capacity and therefore causes a lot of congestion. The measures that are being developed in order to solve themobility problems in the region must enhance the accessibility, the freedom of choice and the mobility at the same time as it respects the environment. The project aims were to support measures that: (1) influence transportation needs; (2) change the transportation modes; and (3) leads to a more effective use of the existing infrastructure.
