Abstract

Passenger car occupant restraint systems are compared as to their potential effectiveness in saving lives. The systems include lap belts, shoulder harnesses, and air bags. The potential numbers of lives which could be saved each year through the installation and use of the restraint systems is calculated, and these lives- saved estimates are then compared.
