Abstract

Tests and observations were made with triple trailer truck combinations to study: (1) trailer stability; (2) passing characteristics; (3) braking characteristics; (4) backing; (5) truck operating speeds; (6) splash and spray generation on wet roads; (7) load testing; and (8) general manoeuvrability. The tests were carried out on the divided highway No. 2 between Edmonton and Calgary. Tests and observations have shown that within the range of traffic conditions on the highway, the triple trailer truck combination does not create any special hazard to traffic safety.
