The purpose of this study is to test the quality of retro reflecting material according to the Dutch standard NEN 3381 and the European standard (draft version) prEN12899-1:2000 for class II material. Photometric measurements were performed of eight different colored samples to determine the retro reflection coefficients, the luminance factor and the chromaticity coordinates. The material also went through an accelerated ageing process and was tested according to the standard NEN 3381. The results show that the values agree with the Dutch standard and amply meet the European draft. The blue and the red color coordinates are exceptions and lie respectively on the edge and outside of the prescribed color region. All materials meet the requirements after having gone through the simulated ageing process. (A)
