Abstract

On 19 March, 1979 the South Australian Government enacted legislation restricting novice riders to motorcycles with an engine capacity not exceeding 250cc. The restriction applies for a period of 12 months following issue of the first motorcycle licence. In June, 1985, a motorcycle safety package which foreshadowed a review of the restriction was endorsed. The efficiency of the capacity limitation is reviewed.
