Abstract

The National Transport Commission (NTC) is reviewing the Australian Road Rules and the Australian Vehicle Standards Rules. This discussion paper is seeking information from interested stakeholders about these rules to inform how to improve the outcomes sought from these rules. These outcomes are improved road safety and efficiency of the road network. The Australian Road Rules form a large portion of overall traffic law. They specify rules for motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. The Australian Vehicle Standards Rules provide the roadworthiness standards for motor vehicles, and other specific requirements for heavy vehicles and trailers. The review examines the rules from an operational, tactical and strategic perspective. (Author/publisher)
