Whilst there are many different sources of funding for road construction, maintenance and rehabilitation, a limited number of these are available for application to local roads. Changes in the volume and type of freight being carried on local roads are leading to increased costs for councils and there is interest in systems for recovering these costs. This report reviews current practice in Australia for the recovery of local road costs from industry. The project also reviews the benefits of preparing guidelines for the recovery of local road costs caused by transport operations. (Author/publisher)
