Abstract

Successful operation of the prototype accelerating walkways indicates the feasibility of providing moving walkways that can carry pedestrians safely and comfortably at speeds of five miles per hour or more, without compromise of any of the provisions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code for Walkways and Escalators. Such walkways would provide at reasonable cost a greatly needed facility to handle pedestrian in congested areas.
